WHERE IN THE WORLD?
Fruits of Labour
A TRIBUTE TO the workers who toiled hard to build a crucial waterway in the Niagara Peninsula, this monument designed by a local sculptor was unveiled in the early aughts. It’s comprised of life-like bronze statues and themed piles of rocks surrounding an imposing rough-hewn granite fountain.
Last issue’s “Where in the World?” location was the Wainfleet Bog Conservation Area in Port Colborne. Part of Niagara Peninsula’s only bog wetland, Wainfleet’s marshes began forming 12,000 years ago as a result of melting glaciers from the last Ice Age.
