The Niagara Grape & Wine Festival Celebrates 75 Years

A year of celebrations will peak in September with the annual event and Grande Parade.

This year, the Niagara Grape & Wine Festival marks its diamond jubilee — that’s 75 years showcasing the world-class wines of Niagara.

“When you look back at the thousands of volunteers, growers, winemakers, community partners and visitors who have contributed to it becoming one of Canada’s longest-running and most iconic wine festivals, it’s something to be truly proud of,” says Marzia Murdoch, chair of the festival board.

CAA Niagara has been there for many years of the festival’s journey, providing support for the iconic Grape & Wine Festival Grande Parade through downtown St. Catharines.

“Having CAA as a long-time supporter has been incredibly valuable. Beyond the practical support, it’s really about having a trusted organization that shares our commitment to safety, accessibility and helping people enjoy the festival experience,” says Murdoch. She owns 180 Winery, named for her 180-degree transition from corporate life to winemaker.

“This 75th anniversary year of the Niagara Grape & Wine Festival is about celebrating our history while creating memorable new experiences for visitors.”

The flagship event in September draws locals and visitors to Montebello Park for a wine lover’s weekend with more than 100 Niagara wines to taste. Participants can stomp grapes with the mayor, enjoy live music — the headliner this year is the Juno-award-winning rock band Sloan — and feast on tasty food prepared by the region’s celebrated chefs and restaurants.

“This 75th anniversary year of the Niagara Grape & Wine Festival is about celebrating our history while creating memorable new experiences for visitors,” says Murdoch. Certainly, the festival will continue to improve with age, just like fine wine. CAA
