Fat Rabbit

St. Catharines, Ont.

St. Catharines’ favourite Michelin-recommended butcher-bistro underwent an expansion in 2026. It now has a new bar and 90 seats inside, which triples its previous size — allowing it to host more patrons and reach greater heights of acclaim. “Most exciting? Seeing how people have responded to the space itself,” says Fat Rabbit’s Seana Smith. While the restaurant boasts Canada’s top-rated burger and is ranked No. 38 on the World’s 101 Best Burger Places list, Smith has a surprising pro-tip: don’t sleep on the vegetable side of the menu, which has featured surprise hits such as Broccolini Fritti and Grilled Chicories with whipped ricotta and Meyer lemon. And the added seating means the wait for deliciousness is that much shorter. “Just show up,” says Smith. “Enjoy a cocktail and enjoy your people.” — Cassandra McCalla

RADAR | THE END OF THE ROAD

The Port Maitland Pier

Dunnville, Ont.

If you love to drive until the pavement literally runs out, steer your vehicle toward the border of Ontario’s Niagara region and Haldimand County. Here lies the Port Maitland Pier, a wonderfully stark and windswept terminus. The pier and its lighthouse mark the mouth of the Grand River as it enters Lake Erie. To get there, you’ll cruise down long, mostly straight grid roads, tracking south until you hit the water and find a 450-m concrete pier jutting into Lake Erie. Some folks come to fish, some to wander and take in the views. It does look a bit like the edge of the world. — Dick Snyder
