WHEN YOUR CHILD MOVES OUT on their own, it’s a big moment for both of you. Whether they’re headed to a campus dorm, their very own apartment or a shared house, setting them up with the essentials can make all the difference to the success of their academic year. Think of it as a mix of comfort, function and peace of mind.

Start with the basics: bedding, storage bins, a laundry basket and cleaning supplies (they’ll need them, even if they don’t know it yet). Small appliances, including a mini-fridge, microwave and kettle, will make the space feel like home. A desk lamp, surge protector and an extra-long phone charger cable will keep their study zone powered up.

Don’t forget personal touches! Framed photos and a favourite mug can help them feel grounded, even when they’re hundreds of kilometres away from home.

Here’s one more item for the checklist: insurance. Once they’re no longer living under your roof, your homeowner’s policy may not cover their belongings. If their laptop is lost, their bike is stolen or the TV accidentally gets damaged, it’s important that they have protection in place. While they’re busy worrying about making their space spectacularly stylish, they’re lucky they’ve got you to make sure the important things are covered. (They’ll learn eventually.)

CAA makes it easy for Members to add tenant or content insurance to an existing policy. With multiple policies, Members can bundle and enjoy additional savings, too. It’s one less thing to worry about during move-in mayhem. CAA
